Families

Best Friends {Brisbane Children Photographer}

They have been friends since they were a little over 6 weeks old.  Even though they do not go to the same school, we try to keep in touch during school holidays by having sleep overs at each other’s house.  My “oldest” friendship dates back to school days.  So I do hope that their friendship will be long lasting.  Only time can tell but in the meantime, it is important that we try to “immortalize” the friendship via memories and photos.  One day the girls will look back at these photos and remember the wonders of childhood friendship!

I love experimenting with my processing so I thought I’ll post them side by side.

Spending time together {Brisbane Children Photographer}

Well, school holidays is half gone and so far I have enjoyed the “slow” mornings and the easy evenings whereby I do not have to pack lunch boxes (one of my pet hates!).  Today we baked cup cakes.  Last week we baked brownies but I didn’t take any photos.  So I thought I better make up for it today.  I am no baker that is for sure!  So this version of cup cakes come from a box where you just pour the contents into a mixing and voila (well, not quite but you get my drift!).  I’m only good if I can use a wok otherwise I am hopeless in the kitchen!

As you can see from the photos, the girls LOVE the icing!  There was some left over but within minutes the girls made short work of it!  I think I need to go on a mini diet after the school holidays.  All these baking have made my jeans “shrink” a little bit!

{Brisbane Children Photographer}

Neither my husband nor I have green thumbs as you can see from the photos below!  My daughter bought some plants a few weeks ago and planted them in pots.  Let’s hope she doesn’t inherit this non-green thumbs from us or these plants will be dead soon!  So I thought I better take some photos of them while they are still alive! Last week hubby sprayed the weeds so naturally they are now all dead and an ugly sight to behold!  However, through my lens, I have to say that they are almost beautiful!

Now that school holidays have started maybe I should get my girls to weed the gardens in order to stop them bickering at each other (yes, right, keep dreaming!)!

ps. My daughter believes in Fairies so she wrote them a letter!

Happy Belated Birthday! {Brisbane Children’s Photographer}

Queensland is supposed to be the sunny state but lately we have been having a lot of rainy days!  So naturally I was very anxious that it would rain today since it was very overcast.  Anyway, I decided to take the risk and trust the weather forecast that it would not rain, just very, very overcast!  Well, I am glad that I did not postpone the session!  Fortunately it didn’t rain even though it was very overcast.

I photographed little D and her family 1.5 years ago and she is even more beautiful than I remembered!  She has just recently celebrated her birthday.  So a Happy Belated Birthday to you little D!  It was such a pleasure to photograph her and she still loves to chase after birds!  Here are a few images as a sneak peek.  I will be in touch soon when the images are ready for viewing and ordering.

Thanks again for the opportunity to photograph all of you again!

Confirmation {Brisbane Children’s Photographer}

The day has finally arrived after weeks of preparation.  Phew! All done and dusted now.  It’d be another 3 years before we have to do it all over again for our younger one!  At least this time, the only thing  we have to buy is the shoes!  As predicted it was a bit of a rush this morning.  I had wanted to take some photos before we left the house but in the rush, I just didn’t have the time but I made up for it (very rush and very quickly done!) when we got to the church.  Naturally we couldn’t take any photo during the service so these were all taken before and after the service.  Guess tomorrow’s chore is to get the dress dry cleaned and after that put it away for 3 years!

Nurture {Brisbane Child Photographer}

This year my elder girl is learning how to play the violin at school.  In the evenings she will sometimes “give” her little sister a little “performance”!  However, she has never let her sister hold or play with her violin until this evening.  She looked so adorable I just had to stop what I was doing and grab my camera to capture the moment!  You couldn’t wipe the smile off my face! :)

It is time … {Brisbane Family Photographer}

to update the family album and that’s what I did this afternoon for this lovely family.  I must say that this was my shortest session ever and that’s because there were no adorable children involved!  Thank you guys for making my job easy! Here are a few images as a sneak peek.  I will be in touch to arrange for your viewing and ordering session.

A New Addition {Brisbane Family Photographer}

I had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful family this afternoon.  They have just welcomed little baby J into the world almost 2 weeks ago.  He was such a joy to photograph!  I wish I had more time with him!  His sisters, J and C were no less adorable!  As promised, here are a few images as a sneak peek.  I will be in touch soon to arrange the viewing session.

Thank you P and V for a wonderful time this afternoon photographing your family!

Happy Easter! {Brisbane Child Photographer}

Well, the girls are in bed, the chocolates are hidden and bunny trails set!  So I am ready for bed!  However, before I do I just want to wish all my readers a very Happy Easter.  Wherever you are I hope you and your loved ones are having a great time, enjoying the holidays, not to mention the chocolate!  I know my two girls are especially the younger one.  She has been asking me throughout the day today as well as yesterday when is Easter!  I have to remind her that Easter is not about eating chocolates which she promptly answered me, “Yes, Mummy I know. It’s about God.”  Bless her!

I don’t have any photos of Easter eggs to share but I do have some images of my cute younger one (yeah, I’m totally biased!).

She was pretending to take a photo of me using her phone!

Holiday! {Brisbane Children Photographer}

I cannot believe that Term 1 is over!  I know the girls will drive me insane with their constant arguing at home but can I just say that I am so happy to not have to pack lunch boxes for the next 9 days!  I haven’t taken any photos of the girls ever since we came home from our trip back home to Malaysia.  So I thought I should do just that when the girls were out playing in the backyard this evening.  Tonight I’d share some photos of my elder one first.

Morning with my Girl {Brisbane Children Photographer}

I am a little slow in posting this but better late than never.  I spent the morning with my little girl at her school on her birthday.  She was so excited as she got a little bit more attention on that day.  I have so much respect for her teachers!  With more than 20 children in the class, you can imagine the noise level but these children are so well behaved and that is very much due to the teacher’s abilities to get the children to cooperate!  Let me just say that I was happy to leave after morning tea!  I could never cut it as a teacher!

Just thought I’d share a couple of photos taken on the day with my little P&S.

Me and my Girls {Brisbane Children Photographer}

I don’t normally download photos from my husband’s P&S but lately I’ve been using it when I was too lazy to use my DSLR.  I came across these two images that my husband took when we were back in Malaysia.  Like most photographers, I have very few photos of myself with my children.  Thankfully my girls are so much more photogenic than me!  Anyway, I thought I would share these two.  The girls had so much fun playing with my sister’s dogs.  The one in the image below is the more mischievous one of the two called Lovey.

Looking at these photos, I think all 3 of us need a haircut!

Mini Sessions {Brisbane Children’s Photographer}

Mother’s Day will be here soon and if you are thinking of giving photographs as presents this year then you will need to have the photos taken now. This is to allow for time to process and print the images.

As such, I will be running a limited number of mini sessions in April. These sessions are only available on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) starting from 4:30pm at a location chosen by me.

Mini sessions are essentially a mini version of my portrait session. So instead of a 1-2 hour session with an online gallery of approximately 40 images to choose from, a mini session is approximately 45 minutes with 10-15 images to choose from.

This is a great opportunity for parents to update their albums as we all know how quickly children grow up. My portrait session starts from $450 and digital images are not available at this amount. So booking a Mini Session provides you the opportunity to purchase some digital images at a really great price.

The fine print:

  1. The mini session will only cost you $500 and it includes the non-refundable booking fee of $150
  2. Limited to only 1 (one) child/teenager per session
    • - Additional child can be included in the session at the cost of $25 per child
    • - Limited to 2 (two) children per mini session
    • - Time limit will still be approximately 45 minutes
  3. The child or any additional child must be 6 months or older
  4. Excludes family portraits, maternity and newborns
  5. Excludes any other offers or promotion currently being run by The Colour In You Photography

What will you get?

  1. 5 (five) digital images which can be chosen from an online gallery of 10-15 proofs
  2. 5 (five) 5″x7″ prints for each of the 5 (five) digital images selected

There is no obligation to purchase additional digital images or prints but you may do so if you wish.

These sessions are limited and offered on a first come, first serve basis so contact me via email, thecolourinyouphotography@gmail.com or phone me on 0422 226 937 to book a session.

Happy Birthday My Sweet Girl! {Brisbane Children Photographer}

As soon as she saw the ice cream cake box, she realised that it is her birthday!  Immediately, she asked for her presents! Oh so impatient!  In any case, we couldn’t delay too much as the cake was melting fast!  That’s what happens when you get ice cream cake!

Her actual birthday is next week but we decide to celebrate today rather than next weekend. She is now happily playing with her little ponies but who knows how long the novelty will last!  It gets harder and harder to buy presents for them now.

Here’s a little storyboard of today’s event.

Physically I’m back … {Brisbane Child Photographer}

… but mentally I am not!  Although the time away was not really restful as in I did not feel relaxed, it was nonetheless, some time away from the daily chores of making lunches for the girls, cooking, washing and the daily, mundane grind of things that must be done to get through the day.  So in some ways, it was some resemblance of rest if only the weather wasn’t so stinking hot all the time!

Anyway, I am back and am very glad to be home.  There is truly no place like home.  I am slowly catching up on things that must be done both photography related as well as non-related.  I am home physically but mentally, I am still wandering.  This is usually the case for me when I take a break.  It takes me a while to really get back into the groove of things.

Just before I went away, I attended a workshop and on the last day we had a little photoshoot but we couldn’t find a model to dress up as a bride.  So we made do with two cute little models instead which is kind of appropriate for me since I am a child photographer rather than a wedding photographer!  We walked around the city and there are just so many places, spots and lanes that offer so many opportunities for edgy and urban looks.  Anyway, here are a few images from the mini session.

Website Updated! {Brisbane Child Photographer}

Well, it’s about time I update my website.  I was getting tired of the old template as the vertical images are all left aligned which seems to annoy me and I don’t always have or want two vertical images together.  I would have switched sooner but my “holiday” kind of interrupted things a little bit.  Anyway, it’s all done now.  So if you have a few minutes to spare, please visit my website and to have a look at the new template.  I hope you enjoy browsing through my work as much as I have enjoyed putting them together!

Chinese New Year 2010 (Part 2) {Brisbane Child Photographer}

Well, we survived the dinner.  I wish I wasn’t so tired but I was just ready to crash as were my hubby and the girls.  I think we just fell asleep as soon as our heads hit the pillow!  Thank goodness we weren’t expected at my parents’ house until after 1pm the next day.

The swimming pool at the hotel we stayed in was such a blessing!  It saved the girls from boredom as well the oppressing heat and humidity.  However, on the flip side, it also indirectly drove me insane because my younger one wanted to stay in the pool whole day!  I supposed it can’t be much fun for them when they cannot communicate with my parents and there is nothing for them to watch on tv either.  With the foul weather they really can’t bear to go out until the sun starts to set and by then we were all cranky as hell!

You would think that since I grew up here I would be used to the heat but seriously the heat was something that I could not stand, not ever!  That’s why my hubby dubbed us “Mall-going people” because that is what we do – go from one shopping mall to another during the day on weekends when we are not working in the air-conditioned offices!

So after 5 days at my hometown, we drove down to the capital city, Kuala Lumpur to stay with a friend.  It was that dreaded 4 hour drive again but this time around, there was none of that horrific traffic chaos!  The girls were much happier now as well since they have playmates and some tv shows to keep them occupied.  However, my younger one was missing her favourite food – Fish and Chips!

So naturally we had to get some Fish and Chips!  It was either that or wear ear plugs!  Since I was too lazy to carry my camera around when we go out, I had to make do with my iPhone.  So some of the dodgy photos were taken with my iPhone!  The photographer in me was indeed on holiday after all!

Again, the swimming pool came to the rescue as we didn’t do any sight seeing at all. We only had a few days in KL and I had some loose ends to tie up (bank and government stuff!).  The journey home was long as expected and going home via Sydney added 2 hours to the whole trip. I woke up at 4:30am KL time (Brisbane is 2 hours ahead) and didn’t get to sleep in my own bed until 11:30pm Brisbane time – a total of 17 hours of travelling!

I need a real holiday to recover from this “holiday”!  This is why it took me 4.5 years to “plan” this trip!  Can you blame me?  Oh, where is my genie in the bottle?

Yup, full! Now for bed!

I'm eating Mum! No Photos!

My nieces braided her hair.

Trampoline to the rescue!

Best Friends!

The following photos were taken with my iPhone hence the terrible quality!

Taken with my iPhone, so excuse the crappy quality!

Fish and Chips finally!!! Again, taken with my iPhone. Can't you tell?

Look at the satisfaction in that face!!! iPhone again!

Chinese New Year 2010 {Brisbane Child Photographer}

The last time I celebrated Chinese New Year with my family was back in January 2003.  So yes, I was way long overdue for another proper celebration with my family as the last time we were back, it wasn’t Chinese New Year.

It was good to see family and friends but the journey there and back were not something I would want to repeat anytime soon!  I wish we could skipped the journey and just “blinked” ourselves there!

After an 8 hour flight (red eye) we arrived a bit excited and couldn’t wait to get into our rented car and drive the 4 hour drive to my parents’ house.  Alas, the car rental counter was not opened yet so we had to wait for about an hour which was not too bad since it gave us time to have breakfast.  Finally we got into our rental car only to find that we could not locate the “handbrake”!  That Toyota Camry must be some new model that we have not seen in Brisbane yet because the “handbrake” turned out to be a foot pedal!  I actually ran back into the terminal to find the guy who drove the car to us but by then my hubby had located the foot pedal!  Anyway, off we went in anticipation of a quick trip home.  It went well from the airport until we got to the city.  So for about 45 mins things went smoothly then all hell broke loose…

The 4 hour drive that should have happened turned into a nightmarish 7 hour drive!!!  To say I was cranky was an understatement.  Bear in mind we had been on board a plane throughout the night for about 8 hours already.  Thankfully the girls slept a fair bit but my older one threw up a few times :(   My poor baby!  The younger was getting antsy.  Can you blame her?

The weather was awfully hot and stifling.  Every rest-stop along the highway was packed to the hilt!  There was absolutely no place to park the car.  The toilet queues were miles long…  The heat was unbearable.  I was in jeans, wishing I could just strip off my clothes!

It took us 3.5 hours to travel approximately 163km which meant an average of 46 km/hour!  Finally after about 4 hours, we managed to get up to the speed of 110km which was the speed limit of the highway.  I could have kissed the ground when we finally arrived at my parents’ house.  To say we were exhausted was an understatement…  Just thinking about it and writing this down now is exhausting!

Anyway, we made it home in time for the all important Chinese New Year Eve Reunion Dinner.  I had great plans for documenting our trip home this time but that 7 hour drive from hell just sucked all my energy and drained me dry!  The weather throughout the whole trip sealed the deal.  I just could not stand the heat and felt lethargic all the time.  The camera did not get the work out it deserved.  On my 5th day home I fell ill.  Had stomach ache which kept me up the whole night with trips to the toilet and an achy body the next day.  A couple of days later my hubby fell ill too.  Thankfully the girls were fine!

Anyway,  here are some photos that I managed to take.  Will continue tomorrow with the rest of our trip.

Finally we arrived and I can take my shoes off!

Waiting to board the plane

Availability {Brisbane Child Photographer}

I won’t be available for the next couple of weeks.  I will attend to all inquiries as soon as I can.  It’s been busy the last few weeks especially the last couple of days.

As always, I cannot post without posting a photo.  As I have no time to process the photos that I just took this morning, this one will have to do!

Birthday Girl! {Brisbane Child Photographer}

Last week we celebrated another birthday.  We say it all the time but it is true that time flies!  We had a small gathering of a few close friends and it was just perfect!

Cotton Candy! {Brisbane Child Photographer}

Today  I had the pleasure of photographing a gorgeous little girl in the “field of cotton candies”!  The “cotton candies” were the beautiful long peach coloured weeds that are really as soft as cotton to the touch.  That’s what little B calls them.  Thanks to the “cotton candies”, we had a really wonderful session this evening!  It provided the perfect setting for our shoot as well as the perfect distraction for little B!

I have so much difficulty choosing just a few images for the sneak peek.  So sorry D, I hope you hadn’t been waiting too long to see them!  I couldn’t pick 2 to 3 as I told you I would.  So here are more than just 2 to 3!  I hope you like them.  I will be in touch soon to arrange for the viewing and ordering session.

Website Updated {Brisbane Child Photographer}

Now that I have time to focus on my photography business on a full time basis, I have finally managed to update my website with new images in particular wedding images.  Even though my passion lies in photographing children, I do sometimes second shoot for other photographers.  I much prefer to photograph children even though they are much harder to photograph than adults.

Here’s a sneak peek of what you can find in the Fine Art Portraiture section of my website.

Crazy Hair {Brisbane Children Photographer}

I don’t have the heart to cut her hair.  I think since her birth, I’ve only ever had her hair cut once!  This is what she looks like when she wakes up, hair all tousled and tangled!  No matter how I comb and tie her hair, she eventually end up looking more or less like this again by mid-morning!  I have to admit that her carers at day care did a better job than me at braiding her hair!  Seriously though, I need to take her to the hair dresser soon!

Therapy! {Brisbane Child Photographer}

Last year in January I took part in a challenge to take a photograph a day for the whole month of January.  Not even half way through the month I was ready to give up but nevertheless I stuck to it and finished the challenge.  This year it is on again but I swore last year that I will never take part again and I didn’t!  When I HAVE to do something, it becomes a chore and whatever creativity I have in me flies out the window quick smart.  In the end all I did was just take any photograph without any thought to lighting or composition.  I applaud those who love this challenge and do a good job at it.  It is just not me, not my cup of tea!

I may not take a photo every day but I love to edit photos that I have taken, every day if I can.  It’s has a therapeutic effect on me! I have enjoyed editing photos during this Christmas and New Year break from work.  However, today is the last day of my holiday and alas I go back to my day job tomorrow for another 2 weeks before I call it quits altogether and do this photography gig full time!  I have been enjoying processing photos of my girls and out takes from sessions in my down time.  So here are few that I would love to share with all my readers.  I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoy editing them.
