“A picture is worth a thousand words”
… or is it ten thousand words? I have no idea who coined that phrase or where it originated from, China or Japan? It does not matter. What matters is that it is so very true! A picture, a photo, an image of a loved one is priceless. It tells a story, it brings back memories, it makes you laugh, it makes you tear up, it feeds the soul… and that is my vision, my goal whenever I take a picture.
My name is LK. It’s my initials. It stands for a Chinese name that gets mispronounced and misspelled as Chinese names often are. When I started working I used my initials because that seemed to be the norm at that company . It was great! There were hardly any questions about what LK stands for, no one mispronounced or misspelled it. Then I came to Australia and everyone wanted to spell LK – “Elke” or “Elkay”! I cannot win either way!
I am now a full-time photographer specialising in Children and Family portraiture but I do include Newborn, Maternity and Headshots photography in my portfolio as well. I was born in Malaysia but obviously now resides in (sometimes) sunny Brisbane, QLD, Australia since 1998. While I am a full-time photographer, I am also a wife and mother to two girls. So as all working mothers can attest to, it is a very full on life!
Photographing children and family is my passion, not landscapes, not weddings, not product photography, not commercial photography or real estate photography! Children are children and innocent for only a short time. The transition from newborn to baby to toddler goes by in a blink of an eye! Before you know it they are leaving the nest (well, apparently some don’t nowadays! In that case, don’t forget to charge them rent!) and going to college or leading their own lives.
Don’t let these moments slip you by. Even if you only hire a professional photographer once in your lifetime, DO IT regardless of the stage you are in now in your family’s life journey. So if you are looking for the right photographer to capture and freeze these moments in time for you (as cliche as it sounds!), then thank you for considering me. My aim is to tell your story and the journey of your family and loved ones. What I offer you is a chance at capturing timeless and life long memories that you can hand down from generation to generation. My point of difference is my style of editing and my attention to details. Every image I present to you is unique and a work of art. Each image is individually and skillfully edited. My prices are reasonable as I do not compete based on prices but rather on the quality of my images.
My images have been described as rich, warm and soulful. I equate them to rich, decadent chocolate or chocolate cake or better yet, that warm and comfort sensation when you eat chocolate. That’s what I want you to feel when you see your images as I have captured them. Each image is an art, each one tells a story and each one deserves to be shared, enjoyed, admired and be proudly displayed on your walls or anywhere in your home for all to see.
Each session is customised to suit your needs and requirements. I like to meet with my clients first to understand what they are wanting to have as keepsakes, what they would like to see hanging on their walls or displayed on their desks. This gives me an idea of what to create or capture during the session, which is very vital. Please take your time to browse through my portfolio and view my work.
